BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo football team dropped a shootout to Western Michigan, 48-41, at UB Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It was the Bulls' first conference loss of the season.

The loss spoiled UB's best offensive performance of the season. The Bulls totaled a season-high 551 yards of total offense. Quarterback C.J. Ogbonna competed 22-of-34 passes for a career-high 309 yards and two touchdowns in the game. He had touchdowns passes to Victor Snow and Taji Johnson.

Snow had his best game as a Bull, hauling in seven receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown and added a 12-yard touchdown run. Johnson also had a career-best five catches for 50 yards and a score.

For the second straight game, Buffalo rushed for over 230 yards as a team, totaling a season-best 242 yards. Al-Jay Henderson led the way with 97 yards on the ground, including a 68-yard score. Messiah Burch added 58 yards rushing and his first career touchdown.

Buffalo capitalized on an early Western Michigan fumble to take a 7-0 lead just 82 seconds into the game on a seven-yard touchdown run by Burch. Following a Bronco touchdown, Upton Bellenfant made a 26-yard field goal to give the Bulls a 10-7 lead after one quarter of play.

Western Michigan scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 28-10 lead and seize control of the game. A 26-yard touchdown pass from Ogbonna to Snow cut the deficit to 28-17 at the half.

The Broncos extended their lead to 35-17 in the third quarter before the Bulls made a charge. Ogbonna found Johnson over the middle for an 11-yard touchdown in the third quarter and then on the first play of the fourth quarter, Snow took an end-around 12 yards for a touchdown to cut the Western Michigan lead to 35-30.

Trailing 38-30, early in the fourth quarter, Henderson ripped off a 68-yard touchdown run and then Ogbonna found Chance Morrow in the back of the endzone for the two-point conversion to tie the game, 38-38.

A big Western Michigan kick return set up a short field leading to a field goal to give the lead right back to the Broncos. Western Michigan followed with a long touchdown run to go up 10 with 2:43 left.

The Bulls were able to get another Bellenfant field goal on their next drive to make it a one score game. However, the Broncos were able to get just enough yardage on a fourth-down run, despite a valiant effort by linebacker Shaun Dolac, to ice the game.

Murdock led the defense with a career-high 16 tackles. Dolac finished with 11. Kobe Stewart had his team-best fifth sack in the game to go along with a fumble recovery.

The Bulls (4-3, 2-1 MAC) are back in action next Saturday when they play at Ohio.
